Thurs 12th July

Questlove (3 Hour DJ Set)   10.30pm – 3am Thursday 12th July 2018 The Jazz Café, Parkway, London NW1 7PG   £15.00 Early Bird || £18 Advance || £25 on the door if available     Few names in music carry quite as much kudos of that of our headline DJ Questlove. He has worked with such a phenomenal array of talent while always leaving his own distinctive mark on each one. The list reads like a who’s who of modern Hip-Hop & Soul; Jay-Z, Al Green, Erykah Badu, J-Dilla, Common, Joss Stone & De La Soul to name just a handful. All this before we mention The Roots who now hold down their day job at house band for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. As a drummer he is a funky metronome that has brought to life so many tracks originally created through samples, drum machines and computers. Just check out his leadership of the ever morphing group of musicians that calls itself the “Illadelphonics” on Jay-Z’s unplugged album (Roc-A-Fella) and Madison Square performance in “Fade To Black” (Paramount) or at “Dave Chapelle’s Block Party” (Rogue Pictures) for an example of this. As a producer, both on his own and as part of the Soulquarians alongside J-Dilla, Q-Tip & Ali Shaheed Muhammad, his musical knowledge and understanding has seen him bring the classic Al Green sound bang up to date on “Lay It Down” (Blue Note) as well as bring the very best out of performers like D’Angelo & A Tribe Called Quest. He’ll be making the most of all of these phenomenal attributes as he blesses The Doctor’s Orders crowd to his first London DJ set in over 4 years. With only 400 tickets available this is sure to be another packed...

The Jazz Cafe

Some words on The Jazz Cafe from Spin Doctor As some of you may have already heard London’s legendary The Jazz Cafe is goes through some changes. The Doctor’s Orders has had many great nights at the venue putting on great shows with legends such as Big Daddy Kane, Jazzy Jeff, Talib Kweli, The Last Poets (plus many more) and our hugely popular Hip-Hop vs RnB monthly club night (now re-launching at The Garage). I was honored to play a part in their programming over the last few years and in their special 25th anniversary celebrations last year. We want to thank all of the incredible staff that helped make all the events such a success and a pleasure to promote. The work that goes on behind the scenes at a venue like The Jazz Café, putting on 500+ events a year, is phenomenal and when done well goes largely unnoticed. Special shout outs go to Ivor 2 step, Sazzle ‘T-Rex’, John Chips & gravy, Guestlist Goose, French Ralf, Pajoe the party and Sheila the smile. What does the future hold? Right now that is a little unclear. We have known about the take over for some time but been unable to discuss it until the deal completed. The new owners, The Columbo Group, are the people behind XOYO, The Old Queens Head, Phonox and The Blues Kitchen. As we understand it the venue is closed until late May for a refurb at which time it will reopen still as The Jazz Cafe. The focus will remain on being a hub for live music seven nights a week with club nights on weekends. For many the venue has not only been somewhere to discover new music but also hear legends perform in a very intimate...
