Some of London’s best loved DJs play sets dedicated to MJ’s legacy in the main room, while the bar will be rocking to sets of Soul, Funk and Disco from Motown and beyond. Michael Jackson is remembered almost as much for his videos as he is his music. The premier of his ‘Thriller’ video was a worldwide event remembered to this day. Last month I was rocked by the death of Phife from A Tribe Called Quest and last night’s news of Prince’s passing hit me nearly as hard. I’ve been a huge fan since being introduced by my older sisters in the early 80s (the copy of ‘Sign Of The Times’ used in this mix was my sisters till I stole it) and so I was inspired to do this all vinyl tribute mix of just some of the classics that the purple one blessed us with! The Jazz Cafe

Some words on The Jazz Cafe from Spin Doctor As some of you may have already heard London’s legendary The Jazz Cafe is goes through some changes. The Doctor’s Orders has had many great nights at the venue putting on great shows with legends such as Big Daddy Kane, Jazzy Jeff, Talib Kweli, The Last Poets (plus many more) and our hugely popular Hip-Hop vs RnB monthly club night (now re-launching at The Garage). I was honored to play a part in their programming over the last few years and in their special 25th anniversary celebrations last year. We want to thank all of the incredible staff that helped make all the events such a success and a pleasure to promote. The work that goes on behind the scenes at a venue like The Jazz Café, putting on 500+ events a year, is phenomenal and when done well goes largely unnoticed. Special shout outs go to Ivor 2 step, Sazzle ‘T-Rex’, John Chips & gravy, Guestlist Goose, French Ralf, Pajoe the party and Sheila the smile. What does the future hold? Right now that is a little unclear. We have known about the take over for some time but been unable to discuss it until the deal completed. The new owners, The Columbo Group, are the people behind XOYO, The Old Queens Head, Phonox and The Blues Kitchen. As we understand it the venue is closed until late May for a refurb at which time it will reopen still as The Jazz Cafe. The focus will remain on being a hub for live music seven nights a week with club nights on weekends. The Cover Up

The Cover Up is a series of mixes by Spin Doctor dedicated to cover versions blending tunes you know and love re-imagined and replayed. Having received rave reviews from from DJs (Rich Medina, Mick Boogie, Mr Thing & ?usestlove) and blogs (Okayplayer, Main Squeeze & Urban Vault) these mixes offer something for everyone as the 6500+ plays and downloads of Vol.1 show. After a brief 11 month hiatus (to have a kid and run many of London’s best parties) Spin Doctor returns with volume 3 of The Cover up and this time it a Reggae special just in time for Notting Hill Carnival featuring covers of the likes of Curtis Mayfield, ODB, Al Green, Dianan Ross & The Beatles by a host of Reggae greats including Alton Ellis, Dennis Brown, Marcia Griffiths & Ken Booth. “I have been collecting covers for a minute now and decided to start putting together this series of The Cover Up mixes.
